I am a pastoral counselor with a masters degree in pastoral counseling from Loyola College. I am a licensed professional counselor in the District of Columbia and a licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland. I see clients both in DC and in Germantown, Maryland. I am also a spiritual director trained at the Shalem Institute two year on-site program. I have been practicing as a spiritual director since 1985 and as a counselor since 1994.
My particular specialty is combining spirituality and psychology in a way that attends to the whole person. Several years ago I completed training in an experimental, well-researched technique called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This procedure seems to help clients in processing trauma, reworking old patterns, and also in deepening their already existing strengths. Many clients have found the process useful in moving through material that would normally take much longer. I have had experience in helping people deal with childhood trauma such as sexual abuse, experience with issues of adult children of dysfunctional families, life transitions, depression, and anxiety.
I like to help clients attend to body sensations. This awareness is a way to increase a client’s ability to influence choice and change. I offer ways to access intuition and imagination through imagery. Whenever I am asked, I incorporate prayer and other faith practices. I try to cooperate with the client’s own inner movement toward health and wholeness.
